ECO CHURCH

Eco Church is an award scheme for churches who want to demonstrate that they are committed to becoming more Eco friendly, to care for God’s creation through their worship, buildings, land, community and life style.

The ethos behind Eco church is underpinned by the National Church’s goal to become net zero by 2030

Our three churches are registered with Eco Church and are working towards awards,

Great news for St Firmin’s Church

St Firmin’s Church, Thurlby are very pleased to announce that after some hard work by a lot of people across all the categories that we have been awarded a Eco Church Silver Award.

St Firmin’s Church has also now reached Gold level in Worship and also Land, two of the five categories of the Award.

The land at our church is managed for the encouragement of native wildlife, birds, animals and plants. See St Firmin’s Thurlby Churchyard on facebook for the work we have been doing since last year. In 2022 St Firmin’s Churchyard was Runner Up in the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards.

St Firmins’s Church, along with St Michael’s and St John’s are also part of the Baston, Langtoft and Thurlby Naturehood project, a nature recovery plan linking the three parishes.

With a Grade 1 listed building it will not be possible to implement some changes that would take us from Silver level to Gold.

We look forwarding to working towards a Gold standard in Community and Global engagement, and also Lifestyle – which champions the cause of our church community to becoming more environmentally sustainable.
